Display Cases and Counters

The Americans with
Disabilities Act is a Federal law governing public
accessibility requirements for disabled individuals.
This law has established certain requirements for private
businesses of all sizes and involves a variety of
circumstances and situations that control an establishment's
requirement to meet ADA guidelines. For the most part,
public accommodations (private businesses that provide goods
or services to the public) must adhere to a level of
compliance.
Virtually all of our
display cases, food service cases and wrap counters can be
constructed to meet ADA guidelines. We
applaud your choice to make your facility handicap friendly
and will do everything we can to make compliance as simple as
possible for our customers.
Some examples of
accessibility requirements, that can be applied to many of our
sales and service counters include:
Counters with Cash Registers:
At counters having a cash register, a section of counter at
least 36" long and not more than 36" above the floor will make
the counter accessible. This provides a lowered surface
where goods and money an be exchanged. An alternative
solution is to provide an auxiliary counter nearby.
Sales and Service Counters:
For sales and service counters (such as ticketing counters,
registration counters in hotel and motels, etc.) and other
counters where goods or service are sold or distributed, a
counter that is at least 36" long and that is not more than
36" above the floor will make the counter accessible. An
alternative solution is to provide an auxiliary counter
nearby or to use a folding shelf or area next to the counter.
In addition to having a maximum height of 36", all accessible
sales and service counters must have a clear floor space in
front of the accessible surface that permits a customer using
a wheelchair to pull alongside. This space is at least
30" by 48" and may be parallel or perpendicular to the
counter.
Serving Counters: Where food
or drinks are served at counters and the counter height is
more than 34" above the floor, providing a lowered section of
the serving counter at least 60" long and no higher than 34"
will make the counter accessible. An alternative
solution is to serve the items at a nearby accessible
table.
We recognize that
compliance can result in your display cases and counters
costing above standard prices. For that reason, we are
providing 20% off the price of any
display case, food service equipment display case or wrap
counter that is built in compliance with ADA Accessibility
Guidelines.
